The Manx Loaghtan is one of the Northern European short-tailed sheep breeds and descends from the primitive sheep once found throughout Scotland, the Hebrides, and Shetland Islands. A rare find (and breed), this fiber is known for its unique color. A medium wool with good crimp and moderate luster, it works up into lovely midgrade sweaters and socks. Spinners who seek out unusual fiber to spin will enjoy working with this fiber that hails from the Isle of Man. ½ pound put-up; top (combed); 27 microns; 3''–4'' (7½–10 cm) fiber length.
