I made my first rolag with this blending board from PF. It was so much fun and so easy to do! This was my first time making a rolag on a blending board and I'm afraid I packed on too much fiber - the rolag is super dense and a little difficult to spin from. I also managed to roll the rolag too tightly while removing the fiber from the blending board and it was difficult to pull the first dowel out. I had to get one of those rubber grippy things for opening jars so I could grasp one dowel and free my rolag. I certainly need more practice to avoid these troubles, but I hope this experience I had can help others!
The blending board itself, which is the important and expensive piece, is amazing. It's stood up to heavy use since I got it, I have an excellent amount of work space, and I'm absolutely loving the ability to quickly whip up creative remixes of my fiber stash. The chip brushes that are included with the order are very cheaply made, however - mine began shedding bristles immediately, and I spend time picking bristles out of my blends :( I know this happens with bristle brushes with wear and tear, but apparently any use at all on the board is too much wear and tear for these brushes- you'll need to figure out an alternate brush situation or resign yourself to a lot of finicky checking over each layer you blend.
There was a tiny bit of a learning curve but I was able to figure out how to use the board via the video tutorial. I’ve made batts and preps for nuno felted pieces while watching TV. It certainly makes the process of nuno felting easier. Fast delivery from Paradise, great quality and a great investment.
Instantly began to use with bits of fiber to create art batts. Was easy to work with. Should have bought this long ago.
It’s a new tool and learning how to use it. But it’s a great thing to have so easy to dig from it
