One of the oldest wool yarn still in production in Iceland! Icelandic wool was spun into this single-ply bulky weight yarn and is uniquely fluffy, lightweight, and warm even in the coldest of harsh winter weather. This chunky wonder works up into the coziest hats, cowls, and mittens in almost no time at all! Fabric made from Álafosslopi will have a classic wool feel, be slightly fuzzy, extremely durable, breathable, and bloom beautifully when washed. This yarn also felts nicely making it a good choice for knit-to-felt projects, and is available in 49 colors with a variety of natural colors, dyed solid colors, heathered, and tweed colorways.

Álafosslopi is spun from the wool of Icelandic sheep, one of the world's oldest breeds. What makes Icelandic wool so special? It contains two different types of hair that serve as a natural barrier from wet and cold weather. A tough and water-resistant outer layer - composed of coarse, long fibers known as Tog. Underneath the Tog is a layer of shorter fibers, known in Iceland as þel. This softer layer ensures the sheep stay snug and warm even in the worst weather conditions. These dual layers provide phenomenal protection even in knitted clothing, come rain or snow if any moisture escapes through the water-resistant Tog layer, the þel can keep you warm even when wet! This wonderous wool was milled into Álafosslopi by Ístex in Iceland.
