The Urth yarn that has been chosen to go into a kit with this pattern comes in a twisted hank - this means you have to wind it into a cake. As the colorway I chose to begin the shawl with occurred on the outside of the ball, I started knitting there. The yarn began to kink and twist as I knit - so much so that I had to dangle the knitting in the air and let it slowly untwist every few rows. I thought perhaps I should have started with the inside of the ball, so I frogged about 6 inches and started knitting from the center of the ball - - same problem - twisted, kinked yarn! As a spinner, I noted that it was S- plied, so I could only deduce that it was over-spun. Although it is a bit of a struggle to deal with the kinked, twisted yarn, the shawl is looking quite beatuiful, and I will continue and finish it. I would say that it might be better to use this beautiful yarn as warp on a rigid heddle loom than for knitting purposes. I am thinking seriously of ordering more to weave a scarf. The pattern itself is wonderfully easy and nicely written - Thanks, Diane!
