The Kromski Minstrel is a traditional Castle style wheel. The true definition of a Castle wheel is simply a wheel where the flyer, orifice and mother of all are located in direct position above the drive wheel in a tall, castle-like fashion. In this sense, many modern wheels are essentially a Castle wheel. This beautiful Kromski work of art, however, offers the compact, vertical orientation of today’s modern wheels without sacrificing the Olde World elegance and refinement that we are famous for delivering in our products.
Equipped with an 18” diameter wheel, the Minstrel is indeed capable of delivering a full wheel impact without demanding the full wheel real estate. With the orifice being located directly above the wheel and consequently, the treadles, many spinners find this arrangement to be more comfortable to spin on than one where the orifice is off-set to the treadle.
The Minstrel is a double treadle wheel bursting with detailed, handcrafted wood turnings and can be adjusted to operate in either double drive mode or single drive mode with Scotch tension. The optional distaff easily attaches for spinners requiring assistance with longer staple-length fibers, such as flax or hemp. Add this charming yet multi-functional wheel to your archive today and delight yourself with thoughts of yesteryear every time you spin!
Jumbo Flyer kits expand the spinners range in two ways. First, the type of yarn created can vary from lace-weight to super bulky art yarn because of the larger orifice on the jumbo flyer. Subsequently, the jumbo bobbin allows spinners twice the capacity of the regular Kromski bobbin. A regular Kromski bobbin already offers 50% greater space than most standard bobbins in the industry with a generous 4.2 ounce capacity. Jumbo bobbins double that, essentially allowing you to spin two regular bobbins worth without a bobbin change!! This means longer, continual drafts for skeins with greater yardage.

Easy to assemble, very clear directions, went together with no issues and simple household tools. I opted to get an unfinished one and stain it myself, and the finished product is absolutely gorgeous. Spins like a dream as well. VERY well pleased with the product AND Paradise Fibers' customer service!! Fast shipment, excellent contact throughout the shipping process, and the single question I had that I called in was answered quickly and so very pleasantly.
I have had my Minstrel for over ten years and you wouldn't know it is that old. It is a work of pure craftsmanship and a joy to use. The Minstrel will grow with you as your skills and creativity blooms with the ability to choose your tension style and ratios. I love that I can upgrade to a jumbo when I am ready without having to purchase another wheel. The Minstrel is a solid choice for any hand spinner.
This is my first spinning wheel and I absolutely love my Kromski Minstrel! I have been spinning for the past three months on drop spindles before I started researching spinning wheels. I received my wheel from Paradise fibers within one week of purchase, and Paradise fibers kept me appraised the entire time from start to delivery. Thank you !
Putting the Kromski Minstrel together is intimidating, but the pictorial sent to guide you is pretty thorough. The only thing of note was that there are indentations on the brass bushings that hold the wheel that are meant for the pegs to sit ontop, but they are not deep. They were hard to see and I only discovered them when my wheel wobbled while I was spinning. Also, the suede leather thongs used to tie the treadles on snapped easily so I just used shoelaces. Also, the Kromski North America company had videos on YouTube if you need extra guidance on your assembly. They were helpful when figuring out where to oil the wheel. (This is the first wheel I've purchased) I was bummed that in shipping two of my bobbins arrived broken, but Paradise Fibers has been very responsive in sending replacements. All in all I am love with this fantastic gorgeous wheel. She spins beautifully and I am excited to have a beautiful piece in my household that has incredible function.
I have been saving for quite awhile for a spinning wheel of my own while learning on a loaner from our local fiber guild. The wheel I learned on was a single drive Ashford and it was satisfactory and a good teaching wheel. I decided on the Kromski Minstral after much research and study. I use it in the double drive set up and It suits my needs perfectly. A beautiful and versatile machine that I will become an heirloom in my family. I do wish the instructions had been more clear. Although the video helped, there were still a few clarity issues. That is the only thing I would improve upon. The service that Paradise Fibers offered and the swiftness of the delivery of my new wheel was greatly appreciated. I look forward to visiting the store in person in the near future to buy other things I will need.
