This is my first spinning wheel. I have owned a drum carder for a year and wanted to do more than quilt batts. So I decided it was time to take the leap into spinning. I had a hard time spending this much when I have no clue how to spin. I knew I didn't want to mess with treadling my feet, so an electric seemed easier to me. And it takes up less space in the house. I also like to knit with bulkier (size 6) yarn, so I didn't want the regular espinner. The jumbo comes with adapters for the orifice, allowing three different sizes. So far, I like the machine. I am doing thick singles. I have tried Babydoll and Shetland wool. I would like to try plying, but there was no lazy Kate for sale with this model. I bought extra bobbins as an alternative. I have learned to use slow speed and high tension. The reasons for 4/5 stars are: the quality of construction is less than I anticipated. The wood in the middle is thin, not even heavy solid wood. The tension is difficult to control and there is no lazy Kate. I do like the foot pedal and the ability to start and stop instantly. Overall, seems good for a beginner.
I love the jumbo spinner. It's a bit of challenge to spin slow and chunky , but that's the point. I also own the regular e-spinner so I feel covered to spin any type of yarn I want.
I bought this e-spinner because I have trouble keeping a consistent speed of the treadles of my Lendrum wheel when I ply. My plying has improved 100% in only a few days. Without having to treadle frantically I am able to concentrate on what my hands are doing, with much improved results. I have tried spinning on the Ashford e-spinner as well, and it works very well but I love to spin the singles on my Lendrum.
I’m loving it! It’s very easy to use. I’m a brand new spinner, this is the first Spinning Wheel I’ve ever used. I’m so excited to enter the world of spinning!
