I recommend this product
Great for spindling.

As a novice spinner, I was pleasantly surprised by how easily this fiber spun up. It’s soft and shimmers.

I’ve never spun cotton before, so I’m really looking forward to trying this out and learning something new!

First time to spin Egyptian Cotton

I really struggled at first, but mastered long draw and made aged to spin enough to knit a Cotton Sampler vest while h won Judges Choice in our County Fair and Best in Show at the Oregon State Fair. Pattern was FREE on Raveley.

5* is the difficulty of this fiber!

Why did I buy a pound?! This is so hard to work with! It feels amazing, but don’t go over board like I did. If you can test it out in shop, definitely do that like I did, then be reasonable with the amount you buy. I am sure I can return some, I probably should if I can, but probably won’t because I am stubborn.

Egyptian top

If you’ve had a hard time spinning cotton before , try this - it’s a bit longer in staple , it’s absolutely beautiful ! I’m so glad I gave cotton another try . I also mixed this with merino for a great combination - I added a dyed merino top ( or two) to get color I wanted . Also is very pretty if not blended completely - a marled look . Lovely

Product Details

White Egyptian Cotton is a non-lustrous, short plant fiber.  This is one of the longer varieties.

The cotton fibers comes from the fruit of the cotton plant.  Cotton is the white, downy, fibrous substance covering the seed of the cotton plants.  The seeds with this covering are encased in pods which grow on the cotton plant and burst open when ripe, disclosing the white, downy covering of the seed subsequently grown into cotton fibers.  The manufacturing process of cotton are opening, picking, carding, combing, drawing, roving and spinning.  It absorbs moisture and dries quickly.  Comfortable both in warm and cool weather and it can stand frequent laundering.  The cotton fiber contains about 90 percent cellulose and 6 percent moisture.  The remaining consists of natural impurities.  This fiber is relatively strong due to its natural twisted nature, as it helps to keep the yarn firm and strong. It also makes easier to spin it into long threads.  Better conductor of heat than silk and wool. EXCELLENT for SUMMER CLOTHING!

Cotton was first spun by use of machinery in England in 1730!  Developments in spinning machinery in 1730-1793 paved the way to make cotton the most important natural fiber in the world!
