Schacht Looms was founded during the back-to-earth movement of the late 1960's and its accompanying craft resurgence. Schacht makes some of the best weaving looms on the market and continues to make innovative new weaving loom products. The Schacht Cricket weaving loom is no exception and features a small compact weaving loom design in a full featured rigid heddle loom. The Schacht Cricket loom is now available in two widths: the original 9inch Cricket loom and the new 15 inch Cricket Loom and both are super portable.
When looking to buy a loom there are many things to consider.
What brands of weaving looms are best? We carry Ashford Looms, Schacht Looms, LeClerc looms and the Beka children’s looms. These are all high quality weaving looms and great for different application. The Beka looms are made mainly for use by children and beginners who aren't really sure about committing to the craft, or maybe have very limited budget but still want to try weaving. These looms are a great value in general and they are American made which is cool.
The Ashford looms have a fairly broad offering and the quality is good. They have a lot of experience in manufacturing in bulk and are a very large company so the pricing is pretty good in general and they keep costs down. They offer weaving frames as well as the Ashford Inkle loom and Inklette looms which are popular with belt makers and strap makers. These are the only Inkle looms we carry that can be collapsed. Ashford also makes rigid heddle and table looms but not floor looms. Their offerings for the rigid heddle are pretty awesome. The Ashford Rigid Heddle Loom and the Ashford Knitter's Loom which is also a rigid heddle dominate the rigid heddle loom market each with its own strengths. The Knitter's Loom is made with more durability and a folding design where the Ashford Rigid Heddle Loom is more economical but made from unfinished wood and does not fold for storage or travel like the Knitter's Loom.
The Ashford table looms come in two versions. The Ashford Table Loom is a tried and true table loom featuring multiple shaft configurations and a foot treadle system can be added for more accessibility. The other Ashford Table Loom is called the Ashford Katie Loom. The Ashford Katie is a 12 inch wide full featured loom with its strength being it travels well. This loom has some limitation with winding on a lot of warp. The Ashford Katie is a great choice for workshops or weaving while on vacation.
