Great for the hobbyist Review by

Like other Ashford products, this carder is well-built and functional. It's quick to set up and easy to use. For my level of use, it's a great product, but I don't think this is a "production" carder. If you have dreams of selling your bats, or if you routinely process large quantities of fiber, I think you would want something wider and more heavy-duty.

This is a great tool if you're serious about spinning and have a good source of nice raw wool. If you use well skirted fleece, you can wash it yourself, pick the fibers open by hand or with a picker, and then use this wonderful carder to make easy to spin batts. It may take several passes through, but it doesn't take long for a nice smooth batt. It gives you complete control over blending fibers and colors. This is definitely the way to go if you want to process your own fibers. This item will pay for itself in savings over purchasing roving or sending your fiber out to be processed commercially.
