Okay, so I accept that we fiber fanatics pay way more for our tools than they probably cost to manufacture. Even so, paying more than 50 bucks for a plastic contraption to wrap yarn made me cringe. However, I have to admit that this thing does the job it's designed to do, and does it fast and neat. It's plastic, and I doubt it would stand up under rigorous, daily use such as in a shop setting, but for home use with reasonable care I don't see why it wouldn't last for years. It's not a purchase I regret -- I'd much rather spend my time spinning or knitting than manually winding yarn balls. I just handle this winder with kid gloves because I don't want to have to spend that much money again for something that looks and feels like it cost two or three bucks to manufacture.

A necessity for any handspinner. Fun to use. Makes beautiful angel food cake shaped center pull balls, pretty to look at sitting on your table as you knit. Sturdy. Seems pricey to me for an essentially plastic object though.

I have tried 3 winders, so i feel I can comment well on this Royal winder. I have this winder as well as a lesser quality one. My mother has one of those elec ones from the craft store ( That one is garbage, never used after the first time, so i wont even talk more about that one.),

Of the other two hand winders, this royal one is by far superior. The quality is definitely better, it is worth the price, which is actually less here than i have seen it. It winds smoothly and the parts are strong, not so with my 'knock off', which has already lost its handle.

It is definitely worth it to have this winder, if you get a lot of hanks of yarn to be wound. PLUS it is fun.

This is a great little gadget that no knitter should be without. Light weight and very portable. I bring mine to my classes so my students can wind the yarn for their projects.

This ball winder will not last forever. It works well if st up properly, but with moderate use mine has only last about five years.

I feel like I recieved my Yarn Winder in record time.
It was easy to set up and easy to use.
