It was nice wood, but it was not finished, It required a good bit of sanding and a coat of good wax before it was acceptable. As it came, it snagged the fiber, especially when trying to remove the ball from the cross pieces. But with a bit of elbow grease it is quite nice. The joints are a bit sloppy when assembled but it isn't an issue. Winding yarn onto the cross pieces. stabilises it.
Just be careful to start with the pieces straight, not off center, or the whorl will have a wobble.
It is the least expensive Turkish spindle available and I am quite happy with it now.

I fell in love with this spindle after only a few minutes. While it was a little confusing at first, it's turned into my favorite bottom whorls. The center pull ball makes it super easy for plying two singles together, or to knit from. Because I'm a thigh roller (rolling the spindle down my leg) it was a bit of an adjustment for this spindle. I found that I was knocking the single off one too many times; finger flicking from the bottom was easiest for me with this spindle.

The wood on this spindle is unfinished, so it feels a little rough when using it. I have had trouble using this to spin singles, but I don't own another turkish spindle to compare it to. I've enjoyed using this as a plying spindle, and have actually used is as a ball winder when spinning on other spindles!

There is something delightful about a Turkish spindle. It comes apart, so it travels well, and a ready-made ball of yarn is always welcome. This spindle does not disappoint, in those regards. It had become my ready companion, and at the price point, I have been thinking of getting another, so I am never without one. It has become my first choice spindle.

I get excited about new ideas and want it NOW! I can always turn to Paradise to both have the item that I need and ship it quickly. The Ashford Turkish Spindle is a great bargain. It's unfinished so is a bit rough at first, but it does the job and is a joy to use. Love the resulting center pull ball!

I don't do a lot of spindling anymore (I'd rather use my wheel), but this is my absolute favorite spindle. It is well balanced and (laziness) I like not having to rewind the singles once I finish.
